Guards vans

No 1960's NZR goods train is complete without a 30ft or 47ft 6" guards van. With the availability of pre-scribed plastic sheet, this project looks fairly straight forward for the wooden ones. My only worry will be those distinctive bogies. And the "turtleback" roof?

Much inspiration and tips for this proposed project have come from the wonderful Mororised Dandruff site. I can't speak more highly of the contributors there. It's a mine of scratchbuilding information albeit for NZ120 scale. But most of the principles and techniques are the same. A brilliant brilliant site. Do check out the plethora of modelling subjects nicely categorised in the left pane.

For my guards vans, I will basically be following Herr Druff's processes for the 30ft and also the 47ft 6", the latter to go with my planned 47ft 6" coaches.

30ft Guards van

Like the wooden ones rather than steel - more character.

47ft 6" Guards van

The 47ft 6" guards van will match the planned 47ft 6"coaches.

more to come. . .
